When the .ME registry - the company that manages Montenegro’s national domain extension .ME - turned 15, they didn’t want balloons - they wanted brains. More specifically, a fun, clever way to make people care (and maybe even laugh) about something as overlooked as country-code top-level domains.
Enter TLD Trivia - a mobile quiz game built by ZUNO as a birthday gift to the domain community. With over 1,500 questions, three gameplay styles, and enough facts to stump even the nerdiest domain geek, the game makes the often dry world of internet infrastructure feel more like a trivia night with smart friends.
TLD Trivia was originally created with a professional audience in mind - fellow domain experts, tech partners, and industry colleagues. It was promoted by the .ME team at international events like ICANN, where attendees received custom-designed QR-code cards that led directly to the game.
(Design note: include image/mockup of the printed promo card with QR code here ?maybe?)
But the appeal didn’t stop there. Thanks to its user-friendly interface and approachable tone, the game found fans well outside the domain bubble - from curious teens to trivia addicts and internet veterans looking to brush up on ccTLD facts. In short: built for the industry, but played by everyone.
TLD Trivia brings the best parts of classic board games and mobile quizzes into one tidy app. Players "roll the dice" to move across a European map, landing in different countries that each unlock a new challenge - 15 in total per game session. Each star-shaped stop offers a mini-game, with points ranging from 1 to 5 depending on difficulty.
The game includes over 1,500 carefully curated questions about country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs), internet trivia, domain hacks, and little-known facts - like how many .ME domains were registered within 24 hours of launch, or which ccTLDs are often confused.
There are three mini-game formats:
To make things more personal, players can choose from six distinct avatars, each with its own quirky personality. The clean, colorful interface is built to keep both new users and repeat players engaged.
And yes - someone finally learned the difference between .SI and .SK.
All 1,500 trivia questions in TLD Trivia were written by the domain team at .ME - with a little help from ZUNO’s in-house AI assistant, DELCAT. It turned out to be an unexpectedly fun (and slightly competitive) internal project, as the team split the research, debated the answers, and learned a few new facts themselves along the way.
